Thoughts On The Final Weekend Before The Election

Here's some food for thought as we go into the final weekend prior to the presidential election.  This piece is full of insights and predictions---the wonks will love it, others may be bored but I'm posting it anyway.

I still think it is unlikely that McCain will win---many are saying it will take a perfect storm.  The McCain folks do not see a path to victory unless he carries Virginia and it's leaning toward Obama at present.  In order to pull this thing off, he has to move Virginia and either Colorado or New Mexico back into his column and I'm just not sure it can be done.

Tune in today for our last show prior to the the election on The Friday Afternoon Political Fix on Talk 92.1 this afternoon from 2 - 3 pm.

The above disagree with the notion that going into Iraq was correct morally, from an American political philosophy, and from a military point of view.

They outnumber those supporting McCain significantly -- and there is great hope for our nation because they do.

When we take a moment to listen to those supporting McCain, we always honor their service, but we also hear a kind of ideology grounded in emotions rather than deep, analytical thought. Of course, we are all honored and touched by any person serving our country in any way, but we do not have to check our brains at the door to respect and honor the sacrifice of our citizens.

That the young man could still argue that what we did in Iraq was good and proper, especially given what we know now, indicates an intellectual and moral blindness.

What he did in Iraq was brave and extraordinary and not in vain; what our leaders did was cowardly, base, vain, and morally bankrupt, undermining our national security, our national economy, and our moral leadership in a world full of horrors.

I usually do not respond to these things, but as an American and former service member I fell I have to.

I do not know why you say things like "we also hear a kind of ideology grounded in emotions rather than deep, analytical thought." and "but we do not have to check our brains at the door to respect and honor the sacrifice of our citizens."

It appears that you have left yours or you just choose to forget. Do you not remember the images on our TV's as Baghdad fell. The images of the people celebrating in the streets, waving American Flags, cheering. Why were they doing this? Because the Americans and the coalition forces were there to stop the dictatorship that was Saddam Hussein.

Do you not remember the joy on peoples faces as they voted for the first time in their lives?

While we can not fix every broken, backwards country in the world, it is our job to support, spread, and defend democracy were ever there is a small seed of it waiting to grow.

It absolutely amazes me that no one remembers these things. It also amazes me that no one mentions or seems to care that we have not had an attack like 9-1-1 since that day. Do you think this is an accident? I can assure you it is not. My fear in this election is that because people believe everything that the media reports that we will have Barrack Obama as our next President. I fear that if elected (and I still have hope and faith that he won’t be) is that 9-1-1 will be small compared to what will happen.

I close with this, please folks, do not forget the past and what has happened and why it has happened.

God bless out Troops and God bless the USA!!!

I remember all those things Mr. Woods.

Saddam Hussein was a horrible tyrant; no argument from me there.

What we did there, without a real coalition, was immoral and harmed our country economically and undermined our moral leadership in the world -- a world that needs our moral leadership.

We have not had another 9/11 -- thank God. It has nothing to do with Bush -- his policies have made another attack more likely, probably. Nevertheless, neither party is responsible-- the nutty Islamic fascists are. We should hunt them down and kill them -- where ever they are.

Regardless of the victor tomorrow, we should support the person elected as far as is possible. Heh, no matter who is elected there is a sense in which we all win -- Bush will be gone.

Indeed, Good bless our troops and our country.

Nick
